The Challenge
Avalere Health is a buy and build organisation (now 22 businesses) across the UK and US. With a new CEO and growth ambitions, The Executive Leadership Team needed to align as a team, create and define organisational behaviours, develop Executive storytelling capabilities to bring others with them and rolemodel.
This was needed to bring these organisations together against the strategy enabler of a ‘consistent cross-selling capability’ that previously did not exist. This required moving from a collection of strong individual businesses to an integrated business with shared standards, behaviours, alongside commerciality. The work focused on uniting leadership, clarifying behavioural expectations, and building the narrative discipline needed to turn strategy into momentum, creating one aligned organisation capable of scaling with purpose.
The Solution
Unthink initially ran a two-day immersive offsite with the Executive Team, to strengthen team alignment and clarify leadership purpose.
The learning experience combined practical exercises with remarkable experiential moments to surface leadership behaviours and team dynamics:
Unknowingly, the ExCo were followed by private detectives highlighted individual leadership patterns
Mystery kayak trips prompted reflection on team values and open conversations about collaboration
The ExCo explored barriers to delivering optimal customer experiences and performance. The insights were used to map solutions to colleague needs, linking strategy to behaviours that supported world class organisational performance.
Embedding the Framework
From this work, the ExCo co-created five organisational behaviours, including:
Impact statements for real-world application
A shared organisational lexicon for consistent language
Iterative refinement to ensure clarity and adoption
By the end of the offsite, the ExCo had defined behaviours and expectations that align leadership, unify the 22 FH businesses, and support delivery of the growth strategy.
Unthink then worked with Avalere’s internal delivery team as part of a scalable Train-the-Trainer methodology that rolled out across the wider UK and US business. Unthink was responsible for the design and co-facilitation of the C-1/2 levels and then the internal team took full responsibility for wider rollout across all levels, over an 8 month period.
